Thriving Together Art Therapy Group - Katoomba
A creative, neuro‑affirming art therapy group for young people aged 12–16
“Thriving Together is about giving young people a safe, creative space to explore who they are, connect with others, and feel understood—often in ways that words alone can’t reach.” — Elisa Ware, Art Therapist (with lived experience of neurodivergence)
“We’re shifting the narrative from ‘what’s wrong?’ to ‘what’s strong?’—using art to help young people build a positive neurodivergent identity.”
About the Program
Thriving Together is the result of a research project led by Art Therapist Elisa Ware, focused on supporting neurodivergent young people through creative, reflective, and affirming art therapy.
We’re running an 8‑week group in Katoomba for neurodivergent young people aged 12–16years. At the end of the program, participants will have the opportunity to share their work in a community exhibition.
What to Expect
- A safe, small group (6–8 participants) designed to feel calm, welcoming, and not overwhelming
- A space to create, explore, and express yourself—no art skills needed
- Support from registered Art Therapists connected with Gateway Family Services
- A gentle psycho‑educational component exploring different aspects of neurodivergence
- Opportunities to build a positive neurodivergent identity through creativity
- Time to connect with like‑minded peers who “get it”
- Sensory and emotional safety considered at every step
This program is neuro‑affirming, reflective, and fun—centred on authenticity, connection, and celebrating the strengths of neurodivergent young people.
Who Can Join?
Young people aged 12–16 years who identify as neurodivergent or are exploring what neurodivergence means for them. No diagnosis required. No art experience needed. Just come as you are.
